Isn’t it amazing how much simply watching television can cost? In fact, if you sit down and add up the amount you spend on media each month you might be completely amazed. It can be a real budget buster.
Here are just a few numbers to look at and assess:
* Cable television
* Movie rentals including services like Netflix
* On-Demand movies
* Internet connection
* Mobile device including iPod/iPad/Notebooks
Of course many services allow you to bundle your media. For instance, you can get your telephone (landline) and your internet and cable television all in one package. This does save money but it still adds up.
If you’re on a tight budget or simply looking for ways to cut back, take a moment or two to look at how much you spend on media.
Step 1 – Take a look at your statements. For example, maybe you’re paying for cable television, on demand (or Pay-per-view) movies and you’re renting movies from a rental service.
Step 2 – Compare. Start shopping around to find out if there are better rates for some of the services you’re paying for.
Step 3 – Eliminate/Combine. Take a look at the media services you can eliminate. For example, if you generally watch television on your computer or mobile device you may be able to eliminate cable television from your monthly expenses. Or, maybe you can cut back on premium channels.
If you normally rent a movie a week, look for ways you can rent them for less. For example, you may be able to receive free rentals online or cheaper rentals with your iPod or Pay Per View account.
Simply cutting back on a few entertainment sources can save you hundreds of dollars each year. And chances are you can find other ways to enjoy yourself and occupy your time.
